  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and sugar until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, combine eggs, buttermilk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth. Pour this mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined; do not overmix.
  4. Divide the batter evenly between prepared pans. Bake for about 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  5. Allow cakes to cool in pans for about 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  6. Beat softened butter in a mixing bowl until fluffy. Gradually add powdered sugar and mix well. Incorporate heavy cream and vanilla extract until smooth and spreadable.
  7. Once cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving platter and spread an even layer of frosting on top. Add the second layer of cake and generously frost the top and sides.
