Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and sugar until well combined.
- In another bowl, combine eggs, buttermilk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth. Pour this mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined; do not overmix.
- Divide the batter evenly between prepared pans. Bake for about 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow cakes to cool in pans for about 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
- Beat softened butter in a mixing bowl until fluffy. Gradually add powdered sugar and mix well. Incorporate heavy cream and vanilla extract until smooth and spreadable.
- Once cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving platter and spread an even layer of frosting on top. Add the second layer of cake and generously frost the top and sides.
