Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, mix sugar and vegetable oil until smooth. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in buttermilk, red food coloring, and vanilla extract.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until combined.
- Divide batter between prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool cakes in pans for about ten minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
- Beat cream cheese and butter together until fluffy.
- Gradually mix in powdered sugar and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Place one layer of cooled cake on a serving plate and spread a generous amount of frosting on top.
- Place the second layer on top and frost the sides and top of the entire cake.
