- 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup seasoned bread crumbs
- 1 tsp fresh thyme (or 1/2 tsp dried thyme)
Instructions
- Preheat Your Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish with nonstick spray or olive oil.
- Sauté Onions: In a skillet over medium heat, drizzle olive oil and add sliced onions. Sauté until golden brown and caramelized, about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add Garlic and Thyme: Once onions are caramelized, stir in minced garlic and thyme. Cook for an additional 2 minutes until fragrant.
- Layer Ingredients: Transfer half of the onion mixture to the greased baking dish. Top with half of each cheese blend and sprinkle some bread crumbs. Repeat with remaining ingredients.
- Bake: Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until golden brown.
- Serve: Let it cool slightly before serving warm. Drizzle with leftover olive oil or garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
