- 9 lasagna sheets (fresh or dried)
- 2 cups elbow macaroni
- 2 cups whole milk
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- 2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a large baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil; cook the macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Once melted, whisk in flour until smooth.
- Gradually pour in the milk while continuously whisking. Bring to a simmer until thickened (about five minutes).
- Stir in half of the cheddar cheese until melted and season with salt and pepper.
- Spread a thin layer of cheese sauce at the bottom of your greased baking dish.
- Layer one-third of the cooked macaroni on top followed by three lasagna sheets. Repeat this layering process—sauce, macaroni, lasagna sheets—until all ingredients are used up.
- Finish with remaining cheese sauce and sprinkle leftover cheddar and mozzarella on top.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake for about 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 10-15 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
- Serve hot, garnished with fresh herbs if desired!
