Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and granulated sugar until combined.
- In another bowl, mix the eggs and whole milk until smooth. Gradually add this mixture to the dry ingredients while stirring gently until just combined.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans. Bake for about 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow them to cool completely before removing from pans.
- In a mixing bowl, beat softened butter until fluffy. Gradually incorporate powdered sugar and cocoa powder while drizzling in milk until you achieve a silky-smooth consistency.
- Stack one cooled cake layer on top of the other with frosting in between each layer.
- Spread frosting over the entire cake and use a spatula or fork to create peaks resembling pine needles.
