Experience the delight of soft, fluffy Japanese milk bread that melts in your mouth—a perfect treat for any occasion!
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup whole milk (warm)
- 2 tsp active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
Instructions
- Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm milk (about 110°F or 43°C) with sugar and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
- Mix the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Pour in the yeast mixture along with melted unsalted butter. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
- Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- First Rise: Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap or a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about one hour or until doubled in size.
- Shape the Loaf: Punch down the risen dough and turn it onto a floured surface. Divide into three equal pieces, shape into balls, then roll each into logs. Place them seam side down in a greased loaf pan.
- Second Rise: Cover the loaf with a towel and let it rise again for about another hour until puffed up beautifully. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) during this step.
- Bake: Once risen, bake for approximately 25-30 minutes or until golden brown on top. Let cool slightly before slicing.
